Bibliography of Zoran Djindjic
Selected works of
Zoran Djindjic
The Zoran Djindjic Foundation, in cooperation with the National Library of Serbia, carried out a project to publish the original works and articles of Zoran Djindjic. The Selected Works of Dr Zoran Djindjic project included the re-publication of three of his authored philosophical books. The first book to be published was Yugoslavia as an Unfinished State, originally released in 1988 by the Literary Community of Novi Sad. The second was The Autumn of Dialectics, first published in 1987 by Belgrade’s “Mladost” publishing house as part of the Great Ideas series. The third authored book by Zoran Djindjic published within the project was Subjectivity and Violence.
The concept of the series also included research and publication of selected materials that had not previously been available as complete authored monographs by Zoran Djindjic. The fourth book released was Politics and Society – Discussions, Articles, and Essays, which featured a foreword by Latinka Perović. The fifth, Philosophical Writings – Essays and Discussions 1976–1996, was published in 2013, marking the successful completion of the project.
Sreten Ugričić, editor of the series, stated:
“The Zoran Djindjic Foundation and the National Library of Serbia launched the publication of the Selected Works of Zoran Djindjic. The concept of the series includes new editions of all books published during Djindjic’s lifetime, as well as the research and publication of selected materials that had not previously appeared in the form of complete authored monographs. Each volume will feature a foreword written by a distinguished domestic or international philosopher, sociologist, political scientist, historian, legal expert, or other scholar familiar with Djindjic’s work.”
Within the Selected Works project, the Zoran Djindjic Foundation published five books:
Yugoslavia as an Unfinished State
This book analyzes the historical, political, and institutional causes of instability within the Yugoslav federation. Djindjic argues that Yugoslavia remained an unfinished state because it never fully resolved the question of sovereignty and internal organization. First published in 1988, the book’s insights remain relevant today for understanding the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia.
The Autumn of Dialectics
This book offers a critical reexamination of Marxist and Hegelian dialectics through the lens of contemporary philosophy. Djindjic discusses the crisis of rationality and the role of philosophy in modern society. It was first published in 1987 as part of the renowned Great Series of Ideas by the publishing house Mladost.
Subjectivity and Violence
This book explores the relationship between subjectivity and structural violence in both political and philosophical contexts. Djindjic combines philosophical analysis with contemporary issues of authority, freedom, and identity. The work sheds light on the tension between individual liberty and the societal structures of power.
Politics and Society
This collection features a selection of political texts, essays, and public speeches by Dr Zoran Djindjic, written during various stages of his political and intellectual development. The texts address issues such as transition, democracy, modernization, and Serbia’s European integration. The book includes a foreword by Latinka Perović, offering a historical and theoretical framework for understanding Djindjic’s political thought.
Philosophical Writings
This book presents a thematically diverse selection of philosophical texts written by Djindjic over two decades, mostly published in academic and scholarly journals. It includes essays in the fields of ontology, epistemology, political philosophy, and social theory. The volume offers valuable insight into his philosophical thinking before he fully committed himself to political life.
